On this website you can see all the events organized by the Museum of Finnish Architecture. During the summer 2017, the events are related to the exhibitions How Finland Was Modernized (in the large exhibition hall); Perspectives (in the small exhibition hall), Modern Life! (collaboration with HAM) and Timber Tetris (on the yard).
In addition, the museum organizes also other events, such as discussions and lectures.

MFA's walking tours take over Helsinki in summer 2017! Gayle McKeen, guide from Chicago Architecture Foundation, takes tourists as well as Helsinki citizens on a unique tour through the core of Helsinki, introducing how its architecture reflects Finnish history – in celebration of 100-year olf Finland.

How can designers and architects help asylum-seekers assimilate in Finland? How could collaboration lead to business? Welcome to take a look at examples of successful projects and to network with other parties interested in this matter.

This annual lecture organized by the Museum of Finnish Architecture pays tribute to the legacy of the Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen. Every year the museum invites an internationally acclaimed architect to hold a lecture about their work, career and sources of inspiration. This year’s lecturer will be Sebastián Irarrázaval from Chile.

Recently Irarrázaval’s work 2Y House was chosen among the best 3 projects of the year by Archdaily and his latest project Public Library of Constitución has been granted Merit at the AZ Award (Canada, 2016), Honor at the Wood Design and Building Award (Canada, 2016) and received the RIBA Award for International Excellence given by the Royal Institute of British Architects (UK, 2017).

The Eero Saarinen Honorary Lecture forms part of the architecture theme day programme during Helsinki Design Week 2017. In addition, the Ruukki Unbelievable Challenge 2017 architecture competition will be published on this day. The event is open to all and requires registration in advance. THEMATIC GUIDED TOUR: Eliel Saarinen & Chicago Tribune

Success in the design competition for the Chicago Tribune Tower put Eliel Saarinen on the map in 1922. Head of Research of the Museum of Finnish Architecture Juhana Lahti tells about the competiton and its implications in his guided tour of the Modern Life! exhibition.

Alvar Aalto Medal Announcement

At the award event you will hear who is the architect to be awarded with Alvar Aalto Medal on its 50th anniversary. In addition to announcing the medalist and hearing about their career, the event will host various speeches:
  • The event will be opened by president of Finnish Association of Architects SAFA and Alvar Aalto Foundation Leena Rossi,
  • The anniversary speech will be given by architect and professor emeritus Juhani Pallasmaa.
  • The medal will be given by mayor of the city of Helsinki Jan Vapaavuori.
  • After the event ends at 5 pm, Ateneum provides visitors with the chance to visit the exhibition Alvar Aalto – Art and the Modern Form.
The event continues at 6 pm at the exhibition opening at Museum of Finnish Architecture, where two exhibitions showcasing the 50-year-old history of the medal and the work of the newest medalist will be opened.
