This new international lecture series presents high-quality examples of wooden architecture and construction. The series starts on Thursday May 23 with two presentations themed “Better with Wood?”

Bjarne Mastenbroek: SeARCH in the transition of a building industry

Bjarne Mastenbroek is the founder of SeARCH, a Dutch office active since 2002. Mastenbroek was awarded Dutch Architect of the Year in 2009. His works include the Dutch Embassy in Addis Ababa, winner of the Aga Khan award, Villa Vals in Switzerland in collaboration with CMA, and the IJDock (with Dick van Gameren) in the waterfront centre of Amsterdam, with apartments, hotel, marina and a courthouse situated on an artificial island after a 20 year long process of redeveloping the area.

The lecture is paired with a speech by Mika Kuisma, D.Sc. (Econ.), Aalto University School of Business, on "Tall wood buildings - Perspectives from Finland and Sweden", giving an in-depth look at contemporary high-rise wood architecture and its’ future outlook regarding the standpoint of industry and economics.

The series is arranged in collaboration between Museum of Finnish Architecture, Aalto University and the Ministry of the Environment.
