Guided Walking Tour: Experience the architectural masterpieces of Alvar Aalto in Otaniemi
The tour starts right after the seminar People-Driven City
. It will be hosted by museum's Head of Research Juhana Lahti
. The tour focuses on iconic campus buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, such as the former main building of Aalto University, and the new Harald Herlin Learning Centre, originally designed by Aalto and completed in 1970.
Language of the tour is English. Free admission.
The tour is part of the People-Driven City Lähiöfest main seminar.
OPEN LECTURE ON SHELTER AND SETTLEMENTS AFTER DISASTERS Wednesday Sep 18, 2019 at 6pm, Museum of Finnish Architecture Lecture / Ian Davis: Key Developments in Shelter and Settlements in Disaster Prone Areas
Professor, architect Ian Davis Oxford University has worked in Disaster Risk and Recovery Management since 1972. He has authored, co-authored or edited 16 books including the very first study of Shelter after Disaster, published 1978. In 1996 he was awarded the UN Sasakawa Award for his contribution to Disaster Prevention.
Based on his long experiences gained as an architect, academic, consultant, writer, researcher and advocate, Ian Davis will describe some of the significant steps that have been taken in providing shelter after disaster. The presentation considers ten developments, reshaping this key aspect of humanitarian concern.

Curated by Professor Pekka Heikkinen, this six-part international lecture series presents topical issues and high-quality examples of wooden architecture and construction. The lecture series is a collaboration of the Museum of Finnish Architecture, Aalto University and the Ministry of the Environment.
