FINNISH ARCHITECTURE – BIENNIAL REVIEW 2016: PROJECTS ANNOUNCED
The projects to be showcased in this year’s Biennial Review of Finnish Architecture were announced at the Museum of Finnish Architecture on January 20, 2016.
The 2016 Biennial Review will spotlight projects that represent bold new thinking and experimental approaches in architecture. The selected projects include many interesting new inroads in housing development. A topical sample of Finnish expertise in renovation and restoration is also represented among the selected projects.
The jury is chaired by Ole Bouman, the internationally renowned Dutch curator, polemic commentator and Director of the Shekou Design Museum. His fellow jury members are architects Sirkkaliisa Jetsonen and Hilla Rudanko. Expert input is additionally provided by Helena Soimakallio, Managing Director and CEO at the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers.
The projects selected for the review will be presented alongside topical themes in Finnish architecture in an exhibition opening this spring. They will also be featured in a book, on the web and in a line-up of related events. The exhibition will be designed by Philip Tidwell.
The 2016 review continues a long-standing tradition dating back to the 1950s. By giving visibility to interesting examples of new contemporary design it aims to stimulate discussion on topical themes in architecture. The review is targeted both at Finnish and international audiences.
The review is organized by the Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Alvar Aalto Foundation and the Finnish Association of Architects SAFA in collaboration with the Architecture Information Centre Finland.
