Hear this, I’m a composer!

Hear this, I’m a composer! is a project where kids and teens are invited to write music under the guidance of professional composers for an orchestra of professional musicians. The purpose of the project is to give room to the visions of children and adolescents. The professionals are there only to provide technical assistance. There have been 13 concerts featuring works by kids and teens since 2011.

Hear this, I’m a composer is based on the New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers programme.

The project participants are the FNO, Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts HelsinkiFinnish Radio Symphony OrchestraHelsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and Helsinki Music Centre. The theme of 2020–2021 is architecture. Pupils in upper-level comprehensive school are invited to create music inspired by architecture. The project is organised in collaboration with the Museum of Finnish Architecture, Aalto University Department of Architecture and Musica Nova.

The next Hear this, I’m a composer concert will be performed in the main foyer of the Helsinki Music Centre on Wednesday 14th of April, 2021 at 5 pm.
