Workshops for groups

Workshops are available for booking from Friday 29 April, 2022.

Six different workshops open up the basic concepts of architecture as well as current phenomena for learners of different ages and backgrounds in Finnish and English. The price of the workshops varies depending on the duration and implementation method. Admission to the Museum of Finnish Architecture is free of charge for students in kindergarten, elementary school, high school and vocational school groups.

If you have any special requests regarding the content of the workshops, please let us know when booking so that we can take into account your needs in relation to mobility, observation or learning.

Long Live Wivi Lönn! – Feminist architect and equity in architecture

The workshop addresses the women’s history of architecture and, more broadly, gender and equity in relation to design, architecture and the built environment. The workshop introduces the life and career of architect Wivi Lönn, as well as women’s history in the field of architecture and in the society at large especially in the Finnish context. The workshop reviews the transition from women’s rights to intersectional feminism and discusses what makes a feminist architect and what constitutes equity in architecture.

Long Live Wivi Lönn! – The Story of Wivi Lönn

Have you heard of Wivi Lönn? What kind of person was she? What kind of buildings did she design? The workshop introduces the story of architect Wivi Lönn. The themes of the exhibition are delved into in the form of a discussion-based story telling, after which we work together on small architectural assignments inspired by Wivi Lönn.

Climate crisis and utopias in architecture

The workshop considers the relationship between climate crisis, architecture and the built environment, using the museum’s collections and exhibitions. The workshop explores the history, present and the future of the concept of utopia and focuses on imagining different, socially and ecologically sustainable realities. Needs and wishes are discussed with the teacher or group facilitator in advance.

The online workshop is organized on a Zoom platform. To make your participation experience as smooth as possible, we recommend that you download the Zoom app to your computer or mobile device in advance. You can also join the workshop from browser. More detailed instructions for participation and the Zoom link will be sent to the participants in a separate email after the booking.

Architectural detectives

The workshop examines the Neo-Renaissance building of the Museum of Finnish Architecture in a multisensory way and provides skills for examining and comparing different buildings. The workshop is based on the children’s experience of the world, playfulness and the production of happy insights. How can a building be observed? The workshop also considers proportions. The buildings are designed for their users. But what kind of a person have architects had as a yardstick? Welcome to the exploration for architecture!

Phenomenal

Hutshop

The workshop introduces different huts and their construction using the museum’s library collections. Why do we build huts? What kind of huts are there in different cultures? And what kind of huts do other animals build? These questions are discussed functionally and culturally sensitively together, and each participant gets to design and build their own hut. Needs and wishes are discussed with the teacher or group facilitator in advance.
