Fill This Space

Fill This Space is a five-day summer school for all 16–20-year-olds interested in architecture and the built environment. During the week, you will be able to discuss issues related to architecture and the built environment together with museum and architecture professionals as well as architecture students. The summer school program is designed according to the wishes and interests of the participants. Participants will also have access to the studio space on the first floor of the Museum of Finnish Architecture that is open to the public. The summer schools are organized in Finnish and English. Participation is free of charge. You don’t need previous experience, knowledge or skills to participate – come as you are!

Open call for 16–20-year-olds

Application period for Fill This Space summer schools for 16–20-year-olds start on April 1, 2023!

Are you interested in art, culture, architecture and design? Do you pay attention to current phenomena in the urban space or do you actively work with them? Are you thinking about what you would like to study or how you could otherwise influence your own environment? Fill This Space is the right place for you!

In 2023, the summer schools will be guided by museum pedagogues from the Museum of Finnish Architecture and members of the You Tell Me collective. You Tell Me is a collective of architecture students and young architects whose goal is to promote a paradigm change in the field of construction. Summer schools are organized at Vantaa Art Museum Artsi, Espoo Museum of Modern Art EMMA and the Museum of Finnish Architecture. During the summer schools, excursions are also made to other destinations in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Schedule

In 2023, the Museum of Finnish Architecture will organize a total of four summer schools: three in Finnish and one in English.

Summer school 1 at Artsi: 5–9 June 2023 (in Finnish)
Summer school 2 at Artsi: 12–16 2023 (in English)
Summer school 3 at EMMA: 31 July – 4 August 2023 (in Finnish)
Summer School 4 at the Museum of Finnish Architecture: 31 July – 4 August 2023 (in Finnish)

Participation

What interests you in your own environment lately? If you wish, you can use the application form to tell us briefly aboutyour findings, thoughts and ideas. We will take your answers into account when planning the summer schools. You canalso apply for summer school without answering this question. This is an easy thing to do! Apply with this form at the latest on 30 April 2023:

The Museum of Finnish Architecture provides the necessary materials and equipment for the summer school activities. Each participant receives a sketch book and a pen from the Museum of Finnish Architecture at the beginning of the summer school. The participants’ own devices may also be used in summer schools. This will be mentioned separately, and lack of own equipment is not an obstacle to participation. The Museum of Finnish Architecture does not cover food, accommodation or travel expenses from the summer school. All excursions during the summer school will take place in the HSL area.
